PROFILE:
A 2,500-mile long ribbon of land on south American's Pacific coast, is bordered by Peru and Bolivia on the North, and by Argentina on the east. Its northern border Is in the tropics, while its southern tip reaches nearly to The Antarctic Circle. In fact, Chile covers part of Antarctica.
Chile is divided into four main regions, each spanning the Narrow width of the country. Starting at the northern end, Great volcanoes, desolate lava fields and huge trackless Dunes characterize the desert of Atacama, Arica. Iquique and Antofagasta are the major northern cities.
Central Chile is dominated by mighty Mt Aconcagua, the Highest peak in the Western Hemisphere, which towers over Rich and fertile vineyards. The Central Region also boasts World renowned ski resorts inland, with miles of fine beaches on the Coast. . Santiago, the capital city, Valparaiso and Vina del Mar are all located in this region.
Chile's Lake region is an unspoiled paradise between the sea And the mighty Andes. It is a region of sparkling clear lakes snow-capped volcanoes and miles of wilderness. In winter, modern resorts cater to skiers from around the world. Temuco and Puerto Montt are this r egion's major cities.
